Abstract

Islamic architecture and mosques are particularly important in the history of architecture in general and Muslim communities in particular, representing a religious value, both symbolic and functional. Islamic architecture is not limited to mosques, but also encompasses many civilian and war architecture. The first is characterized by the inclusion of activities such as teaching and research, sometimes being hostels for scholars or a patient's hospital. The research addresses the concept of Islamic architecture and its various symbols and the impact of successive governance regimes on them. It also tracks the evolution of Islamic architecture in the Maghreb from a symbolic perspective and in terms of architectural elements, based on the evolution of successive regimes. The research also studies the distinctive architectural features of various architectural patterns there and emphasizes the diversity and importance of mosques in the Maghreb. Based on changes in successive governments, research questions include whether successive governance regimes have affected the architectural diversity of the Maghreb and whether the mosques of Maghreb countries contain various architectural models. The research also aims to monitor and analyze artistic and architectural elements in the successive Islamic architecture of the Maghreb and to devise the impact of each age on the architectural style. The research follows the analytical descriptive method through the analysis of Islamic architecture and models in the Maghreb, and the historical method where it documents the diversity of Islamic architectural models in the Maghreb by studying several models. The research assumes that there is an artistic impact due to the succession of Islamic governments on the architecture of mosques in the Maghreb, and that the site of the Maghreb has an important role to play as a result of this diversity. The study contributes to the scientific knowledge of mosque architecture in the Maghreb and emphasizes the historical, cultural, and architectural aspects and the importance of preserving and promoting this unique heritage. The research has yielded several results, most notably: the richness and diversity of mosque architecture and the evolution of architectural trends in the Maghreb, as well as the impact of various governance regimes on them, as they track the evolution of Islamic architectural trends in the Maghreb over time.
